About us

We plan the Northeast, one rain-washed road at a time

Shillong Trip is a travel desk for Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal and the hills beyond. We know which Dawki boat stand opens first, which Kaziranga range suits your dates, and how long the Sela road really takes in January.

What we promise

Six things we won’t compromise on

Honest routing

Real drive times, not brochure ones. Guwahati to Shillong is three hours; Guwahati to Tawang is two days, and we say so.

Planned around the weather

Dawki in the dry months, falls in the wet ones, Sela with a buffer day. We time trips for what you came to see.

Everything in writing

Hotels, vehicle, permits, safari slots and what’s not included, all on paper before you pay.

Local people, local money

Drivers from the hills, village homestays in Nongriat, Mawlynnong and Ziro, and guides who grew up there.

Respect for wildlife

Official safari slots only, no pushing for closer sightings, and parks visited in season.

Credit where it’s due

Our photos come from Wikimedia Commons photographers, credited by name on every image.

The story in our logo

A bridge that grows

Our mark is a living root bridge under a cloud. Khasi and Jaintia villages have trained the roots of rubber fig trees across streams for generations; the bridges grow stronger as they age, and some carry people across rivers today. We like that idea for travel: built slowly, with local hands, and better every year.

The cloud is for Meghalaya, the “abode of clouds”, and the sun-orange dot is for the mornings when it lifts.

How it works

How your trip comes together

  1. 01

    You message us

Dates, travellers, what you want to see and roughly how you like to travel.

  2. 02

    We draft a route

Night-by-night plan, drive times, three hotel options and a written price.

  3. 03

    We refine it together

Swap places, change the pace, add a safari. A deposit confirms it.

  4. 04

    We handle the paperwork

ILPs, safari bookings and hotel confirmations, sent to you in one place.

  5. 05

    We stay on call

A daily check on roads and weather, and a number to call if plans change.

Travelling well

How we try to leave it better

  • Village rules first. Mawlynnong, Mawphlang and Nongriat have their own rules on litter, photography and the sacred forest. We brief you before you arrive.
  • Go easy on root bridges. We keep groups small on the trails and follow local limits on how many people cross at once.
  • Local stays where they fit. Homestays in Nongriat, Shnongpdeng, Ziro and Khonoma put money straight into the village.
  • Wildlife on its terms. Official safari slots, quiet vehicles and no feeding or chasing animals for photos.
Good to know

About us: questions people ask

01Which parts of the Northeast do you cover?

Meghalaya (Shillong, Sohra, Dawki, the Jaintia and Garo hills), Assam (Guwahati, Kaziranga, Manas, Majuli, upper Assam tea country), Arunachal Pradesh (Tawang, Dirang, Ziro, Mechuka, Namdapha) and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Most trips combine two or three of these.

02Can you change one of your packages?

Yes. Almost every trip we run is adjusted before booking: change the pace, swap a place, add a Kaziranga safari or a root-bridge trek, or upgrade hotels. Tell us what to change and we send a revised day-by-day plan and a new price.

03Do you arrange ILPs and safari bookings?

Yes. We handle Inner Line Permits for Arunachal, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur, request Bum La passes in Tawang for Indian nationals, and book Kaziranga jeep safaris through the official system. You send clear ID copies; we file and keep you updated.

04What happens if a road or park closes during my trip?

We tell you as soon as we know and offer the best alternative, such as an extra day in Shillong, a different safari range or Dirang instead of Tawang. If nothing similar is possible, we refund unused ground services suppliers release, as set out in our refund policy.

05How do payments work?

A deposit, usually 25% to 30%, confirms the booking, and the balance is due about 15 days before arrival (30 days for peak dates such as Durga Puja, Hornbill and New Year). Pay only to the account or payment link in your written quote.

06Do you book flights and trains?

We focus on ground arrangements: hotels, vehicles, permits, safaris and guides. We suggest the best flights into Guwahati, Dibrugarh or Dimapur for your dates and time pickups around them, but we recommend you book tickets directly.

07Do you plan trips for foreign travellers?

Yes. We plan routes that work with permit rules for non-Indian passports, arrange Protected Area Permits where needed through registered channels, and flag places such as Bum La that remain closed to foreign nationals.

08Is the Northeast good for families and older travellers?

Yes, with sensible pacing. We keep driving days short, avoid stacking long treks, pick hotels with lifts or ground-floor rooms where needed, and add rest days before high-altitude stretches such as Sela and Tawang.

09How quickly do you reply?

Usually within one working day with a first plan and price. In peak weeks (October, December and the Hornbill period) it can take a little longer, and WhatsApp is the fastest way to reach us. We never pressure anyone to book on the spot.
