The best Kaziranga resort for you is the one closest to the gate you will use at 7:30 in the morning. The park is long and thin, stretched along NH-715 for tens of kilometres, and each safari range has its own entry point. A beautiful lodge an hour from your jeep's gate means a 5:45 am alarm and a cold drive in the dark. Start with the range, then pick the resort.
Every property named below was confirmed through its official website in September 2026, apart from the government lodge, which we note separately. We do not publish star ratings or review scores. Nightly bands are indicative 2026 ranges for a double room in the open season; always check the property for current rates.
Kaziranga's resort areas
| Area | Safari gate | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kohora | Central Range; elephant rides | First visits, most choice, easy starts | Busiest stretch of NH-715 |
| Bagori | Western Range; elephant rides | Dense rhino grassland, quieter lodges | Fewer eateries and shops |
| Tea-garden hills south of the highway | Drive to Kohora or Bagori | Views over the park, cooler nights | Longer transfers to gates |
| Agaratoli side | Eastern Range | Birding, wetlands | Few resorts; no elephant rides |
For how the ranges differ on the ground, our Kaziranga safari guide covers zones, timings and booking.

These bands are our estimates from typical season rates. Resorts price differently for weekends, the Christmas fortnight and all-inclusive packages, so treat them as a guide to tier, not a quote.
Near Kohora: the Central Range
Kohora is where most visitors stay, and for good reason. The Central Range gate is here, elephant rides leave from here at dawn, and the town strip has fuel, pharmacies, tea stalls and a few simple restaurants.
IORA – The Retreat
- Area: the Kohora area, set in landscaped grounds near tea gardens.
- Why stay: the largest full-facility resort in Kaziranga, with 38 rooms and 4 suites, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, the Retusaa spa and a kids' zone. Dining includes Scarlet Flame for mixed menus, Bhatbaan for Assamese dishes, and the Ironwood bar. The resort arranges jeep and elephant safaris, river trips and cycling in season, plus folk performances and village visits.
- Who it suits: families with children, multi-generation groups, and first-time visitors who want everything on site.
- View: gardens and tea-garden hills rather than the park itself.
- Indicative band: about ₹7,000–14,000 a night.
Infinity Resorts Kaziranga
- Area: Bochagaon village, about 7 minutes from the Kohora bus stop by the resort's own description.
- Why stay: 16 rooms in an Assamese stilted-house style with high sloping roofs, handmade walls and bamboo furniture, built in a bamboo grove around a private lake of about 20,000 sq ft. There is a pool, a restaurant serving Assamese, North Indian, Chinese and continental food, free Wi-Fi, complimentary nature walks and safari arrangements.
- Who it suits: couples and families who want a smaller resort with a pool, close to the Central Range gate.
- View: the lake and bamboo grove; some rooms face the pool.
- Indicative band: about ₹6,000–12,000 a night.
Bonoshree Tourist Lodge
- Area: Kohora.
- Why stay: a lodge maintained by the Government of Assam, central and simple, in the same strip as the private resorts.
- Who it suits: budget travellers who want to walk to the Kohora gate area and do not need resort facilities.
- View: none to speak of; you are here for the location.
- Indicative band: about ₹1,500–3,000 a night. Government lodges change booking systems and rates from season to season, so check current status with Assam Tourism.
Around Kohora you will also find village homestays in the fringe villages, typically ₹1,500–3,000 a night with home-cooked Assamese meals. They suit solo travellers and couples, and hosts often pool guests into shared jeeps.
On the tea-garden hills
Niltava, Kaziranga
- Area: a tea-covered hilltop on the southern side of the highway, run by the IORA group.
- Why stay: 10 luxury tents with long views towards the national park, much quieter than the Kohora strip.
- Who it suits: couples, honeymooners and small groups who value space and views over a big-resort feel.
- View: tea slopes and the park stretching towards the Brahmaputra.
- Indicative band: about ₹10,000–20,000 a night.
Tents in the hills are cool on December and January nights, when lows in the region drop to around 11–12°C. Ask about heaters, hot water and blankets when you book.
Near Bagori: the Western Range
Diphlu River Lodge
- Area: near the Bagori Police Outpost at Kuthari, on the periphery of the park and close to the Western Range.
- Why stay: Kaziranga's best-known high-end lodge, with private cottages built from local materials. The lodge's responsible-tourism programme directs 5% of room bookings to the ABN Foundation for education, environment and community work, according to its website.
- Who it suits: wildlife-focused travellers who want a smaller, quieter lodge and are happy to pay for it.
- View: the Diphlu river and the park edge.
- Indicative band: from about ₹20,000 a night. High-end lodges often quote packages that bundle meals, safaris and activities, so compare what the rate includes before comparing prices.
The Western Range around Bagori is dense grassland with high rhino numbers, and it also runs elephant rides. Staying here puts you close to that gate and 25–30 minutes from Kohora for a Central Range safari.
Birders and the Eastern Range
The Eastern Range at Agaratoli is the birders' side of the park, with wetlands and fewer jeeps, but it has few resorts nearby and no elephant rides. Most birders stay near Kohora and drive east for an early jeep, or split the trip with a riverside stay at Nameri, about 35 km from Tezpur, where walking trails with an armed guard replace jeeps. If birds are the main reason for your trip, tell your resort in advance and ask whether they can arrange a birding guide for the Eastern Range and the tea gardens around Kohora.
A day at a Kaziranga resort
Knowing the rhythm of a safari day helps you choose the right stay. In the season, a typical day runs like this:
- 5:00–5:15 am: wake-up call and tea if you have elephant seats. Rides run in one-hour batches between about 5:30 and 7:30 am at Kohora and Bagori.
- 7:30 am: the morning jeep slot starts, about two hours on the track. Some visitors go straight from the elephant ride to a jeep; others go back for breakfast and rest.
- Late morning: breakfast or brunch at the resort. This is where an in-house restaurant earns its keep.
- 1:30 pm: the afternoon jeep slot, usually in a different range, back by around 3:30–5 pm.
- Evening: most visitors eat at the resort, because the Kohora strip has only a few simple restaurants and the highway is busy with trucks after dark.
That rhythm is why distance to your gate matters so much, and why a resort with a good kitchen and early breakfast is worth more here than a large room.
Resort, lodge or homestay
Resorts give you predictable rooms, a safari desk, a pool in the warmer months and a restaurant, which matters when you are out of the door before dawn. High-end lodges give you space, quiet and often a naturalist, at a clear premium. Homestays in the fringe villages give you Assamese home cooking, a host who knows the jeep drivers, and the lowest prices, but fewer comforts on cold winter mornings. For families and first visits we usually book resorts near Kohora. For birders and photographers staying three nights or more, a mix of a homestay and one lodge night works well.
With children or elders
Kaziranga suits both, with a little care. Jeep tracks are bumpy but short, and the two-hour slots are manageable for most ages. Elephant rides involve climbing a mounting platform, which can be hard for elders with knee problems; ask the resort. Pick a resort within about 10 minutes of Kohora so early starts stay easy, check that rooms are on the ground floor or served by ramps, and carry warm layers for open jeeps in December and January.
Which resort for which trip
| Trip type | Our first pick | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Family with children | IORA – The Retreat | Infinity Resorts Kaziranga |
| Couple, first visit | Infinity Resorts Kaziranga | IORA – The Retreat |
| Honeymoon or special occasion | Niltava | Diphlu River Lodge |
| Wildlife-first, high budget | Diphlu River Lodge | Niltava |
| Tight budget | Kohora homestay | Bonoshree Tourist Lodge |
When to book and what it costs
Kaziranga's rates follow the park calendar. The park reopens in phases from late September or October; in 2025 the Bagori circuit reopened on 26 September, Kohora in the second week of October and elephant rides on 1 November. From late December to mid-January, rooms near Kohora fill up and many resorts add holiday supplements; we book 8–10 weeks ahead for those dates. February and March offer good sightings after the grass is burnt back, with easier availability. The park closes from around May, when many resorts cut rates or close.
For a full budget including jeeps, park entry of ₹100 per Indian adult, and the car from Guwahati, see our Kaziranga tour cost guide. For month-by-month conditions, see the best time to visit Kaziranga.
What to ask the resort
- How far is it to the gate you are using? Ten minutes and forty minutes feel very different at dawn.
- Can the safari desk book elephant seats? They are limited and run only at Kohora and Bagori.
- Will they pool you into a shared jeep? It saves couples a lot, but depends on other guests.
- What time is breakfast? Good resorts serve early tea before a 5:30 am elephant ride and a proper breakfast after.
- Is the rate room-only or inclusive? Especially at luxury lodges.
- Where does your driver stay? Most resorts have driver rooms; confirm if your car stays overnight.
Getting there
Kohora is about 195–220 km from Guwahati, roughly 4.5 to 5.5 hours by road; resorts near Bagori are a little closer. Most visitors come by private car or bus from Guwahati. If you are continuing east, Jorhat is about 2 hours beyond Kohora and the ferry point for Majuli. Tea lovers can add a night in a bungalow; our Assam tea gardens guide lists the options.
How we'd plan it
For a first visit we book two nights near Kohora, usually at IORA or Infinity for families and couples, or a Kohora homestay for tighter budgets. That lets you do an afternoon Central Range jeep on arrival day, a dawn elephant ride and a Western Range jeep the next day, and a tea-garden walk before driving out. With a third night, we move you to Niltava or Diphlu for a quieter finish, as in our 2-day Kaziranga itinerary with an extra night added.
Our Kaziranga Safari Break and Guwahati and Kaziranga packages use IORA or Infinity at the premium tier and Diphlu River Lodge at the luxury tier. The Shillong, Cherrapunji and Kaziranga trip adds Meghalaya, Kaziranga and Nameri Birding suits birders, and Luxury Northeast pairs Kaziranga with Meghalaya, Jorhat and Majuli at the best available tier.
Send your dates and preferred range on our contact page and we will check availability at the resorts that fit.
